Person-centred theory is a talking therapy, which aims for the counsellor to understand the client from the clients point of view. The counsellor offers support and understands that the client knows what is best for them. This is not a counsellor directive therapy, the client is in complete control of the therapy.

This is the foundation of my therapeutic approach.

Person-centred Therapy

Different Therapies

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is widely used within the NHS to treat depression, anxiety, OCD and PTSD . CBT uses thoughts, feelings and behaviours and breaks them down into manageable chunks for the client to be able to deal with them. This is a more directive therapy and there will be homework to enable you to complete your therapy.

MI is a very positive therapy and is still very client-centred. By focusing on  strengths and aspirations it can change behaviour and increase motivation to change.

This can be used for addiction, self-development and goal oriented therapy.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Solution-Focused  Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT is a goal-oriented psychotherapy that works with the future. The focus is on what skills you have used previously to achieve what you wanted and how they can help you achieve your goals in the present.

This can be used to help with stress, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders and self-development.

Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP is a self-development tool which can help to reprogram the mind. NLP  works with your language and how you perceive the world around you. This approach has links with hypnotherapy because it pays attention to the unconscious mind and can create different ways of thinking, by bringing the unconscious into your awareness.

This approach can be used for phobias, stress management, as a personal development tool and self-belief.

Mindfulness is another approach used widely by the NHS. This approach is about focusing on the present moment and knowing what is going on inside and outside of ourselves moment to moment. By being more aware of the present moment can help us enjoy life more and ourselves. Various techniques can be used like meditation or specific mindful exercises.

This can be used to treat stress, anxiety, depression and your general wellbeing.

I am currently undertaking further qualifications in Hypnotherapy and Homeopathy. Once I have completed these I will update my website.

I will give you a brief description of each therapy, they all have different ways of working but can be blended to work together sometimes. I aim to provide a description of the therapy, what it can used for . The description and what it can be used for is not a definitive list, it is to give you an idea. It is your choice which therapy would best suit you and your needs at the time. If you have any questions about any of the approaches offered please contact me via the contact page.
